San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park. Founded in 1916, the San Diego Zoo has a long, storied history of advocating for the world’s animals and bringing zoological educational opportunities to the public. Conveniently located in downtown San Diego, the Zoo is in the heart of Balboa Park. Don’t miss out on the SkyFari Aerial Tram and Double-Decker Bus Tour. The San Diego’s Zoo’s Wild Animal Park is 35 miles north of the Zoo and east of Escondido. It allows visitors to get up close and personal to live animals in habitats that mimic their natural ones.
